CUMMING- The search for a missing fisherman on Lake Lanier over in Forsyth County has been suspended.
According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, they along with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office will continue to patrol the shoreline and the water in an area around Little Ridge Park, but the active search using sonar scans, dive teams and a helicopter has come to its conclusion.
The missing fisherman identified as 47-year-old George “Marty” Counts of Tucker was presumably on his small 15ft boat Monday night on Lake Lanier. Later, authorities received calls of small boats doing circles on the water off of Little Ridge Park at around 10 p.m. that night.
When authorities got to the boat, it was out of gas and they found Counts cell phone on board.
Family members of Counts say that he often fished all night and that he owns a home along the lake.
Dive teams started their search on Tuesday and found Counts fishing rod, hat and shoes but nothing else. A helicopter was brought in on Wednesday to search for Counts and was seen all throughout the day Friday searching for him.
Authorities are speculating that while Counts was riding on the boat, it may have struck an object which may have ejected him from the boat.
DNR, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Forsyth County Fire Dive teams and Dawson County K9 units were all involved in the search for Combs.
